    Our history: Green Umbrella was first organized in to unite citizens and organizations concerned about preserving and restoring the abundant diversity of wildlife and plants that thrives in the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana area. Not all governments have the staff capacity to pursue these on their own. The most affecting part for me was reading of the kindness and friendships that passed between Koreans and Japanese despite the brutality of the Japanese occupation. It's what you want - a collection of stories that completes any academic background you might have read. Hildi Kang's work injects a much neglected human dimension into our understanding of the thirty-six years of Japanese rule in Korea by attaching voices to the statistics, reports, memos, and other documents generally used to recreate Korean-Japanese interactions during this difficult period.     We talked about the fruits of our strategic planning process, the highlights of which are a new mission and vision and a new set of Impact Areas and Impact Teams to help us get there. Some stories told by Kang's informants reveal encounters on a basic human level that blur the distinctions generally separating Japanese and Korean. A number of informants, however, do not recall this time as laden with anti-Korean discrimination. Each Impact Team should be populated with the full range of perspectives needed to make progress towards a goal.
